Research Opportunities for High School Students

Dr. Kacey Marra is interested in providing opportunities for high school students in western Pennsylvania to shadow our researchers. This program results in increasing awareness of biomedical research to high school students. It is our hope that these students, particularly female students, become aware of the opportunities available in science and engineering.   ROHSS involves a one-day shadowing experience in the lab.  Additional opportunities in Pittsburgh include a high school program offered by the Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative: http://www.ptei.org/interior.php?pageID=53

Dr. Marra,
I was a member of the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute for the 2009/2010 session, and attended your talk on Fat-Derived Adult Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering Applications. I found this topic most fascinating and very relevant to society today especially in the treatment of injured American soldiers. I have been giving considerable thought to the information you provided in your talk and have decided I would like to learn more about this area as a possible career choice. I feel an internship in your Tissue Engineering Lab at the University of Pittsburgh would be a wonderful opportunity. I would appreciate your fowarding the application material to me.
Thank you!

Dr. Marra,
I was a student at the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute over the 09-10 session and was most looking forward to your presentation. I went on a field trip to the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine as a freshman and ever since I have been trying to find programs to foster my interest. I would love any information you could provide about your ROHSS program.
Thank you very much,
Olivia
