Patrick Emelife is a rising third year medical student at the University of Pittsburgh. He aspires to become an academic plastic surgeon and independent investigator. Patrick’s initial research experience in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has motivated him to spend a full year exploring the regenerative potential of adipose derived stem cells. His project seeks to identify the effects of wound fluid on adipose derived stem cells as well as the regenerative capacity of these primed cells in the setting of burn wounds.
“I am very fortunate to have joined such an exceptional group of researchers. I believe the supportive and positive atmosphere created in this lab will enhance my learning experience and enrich my research training. I am excited to have the opportunity to work on a number of laboratory and clinical research projects in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.”
Patrick is interested in developing novel strategies to reconstruct wound defects. He also hopes to explore the socioeconomic factors dictating treatment of patients in need of reconstructive surgery. Patrick enjoys dining, visual arts, and football.
